TC 7.5의 새로운 기능 1. 추가된 기능

얼마 전 Total Commander 7.5의 공개 베타가 발표됐다. 이전에 사용하던 판이 7.04이고 이번에 공개된 베타가 7.5이다. 일단 판번호만 보면 상당한 변화가 있을 것으로 예상했다. Total Commander가 판올림되면 Total Commander에 포함된 HISTORY.TXT 파일을 가장 먼저 확인한다. 그 이유는 이 파일을 보면 프로그램에 어떤 개선사항이 있는지 바로 알 수 있기 때문이다. 일단 히스토리 파일을 확인해 본 결과 7.04에서 7.5라는 판번호 만큼이나 많은 변화가 있었다.

  1. 완전한 유니코드 지원 일단 유니코드에 대한 지원이 대폭 강화됐다. 거의 모든 기능에서 유니코드를 지원하며 압축 파일에서도 유니코드를 지원한다. 리스터에서도 유니코드를 지원하기 때문에 Total Commander를 사용하면서 더 이상 유니코드 문제를 겪지 않아도 될 것 같았다.

  2. 버튼 막대 기능 강화 버튼 막대 기능의 강화도 눈에 띈다. 예전에는 버튼 막대에서 하위 메뉴를 지원하지 않았다. 그러나 7.5에서는 버튼 막대에서 하위 메뉴를 지원하며 관리하는 기능까지 지원한다. 사실 Total Commander 유틸리티와 팁을 이욜해서 비슷하게 사용했던 기능이다. 이제는 이 기능이 Total Commander의 기본 기능으로 내장되었다. 따라서 이제 프로그램 실행기로도 충분히 활용 가능하다. 또 버튼 막대에 파일 시스템 플러그인을 끌어놓기로 등록할 수 있다.

  3. FTP 기능 강화 Total Commander의 FTP 기능 보다는 보통 FlashFXP와 같은 전용 클라이언트를 사용한다. 그 이유는 Total Commander의 FTP 기능이 아무래도 전용 클라이언트 기능 보다 떨어지기 때문이다. 그런데 Total Commander의 FTP 기능에도 여러 가지 기능 추가가 있었다. 먼저 가장 눈에 띄는 기능 추가는 바로 마스터 암호 기능이다. Total Commander의 FTP 기능을 사용하면서 가장 불안한 부분이 FTP 암호의 유출인데 Total Commander 7.5에서는 마스터 암호를 설정해서 FTP 암호를 보호할 수 있다. 또 FTP 관리자에 폴더 기능을 지원하며 폴더 경로에 FTP ID가 표시된다.

  4. 빠른 폴더 이동 비스타에서 지원하는 빠른 폴더 이동을 지원한다. Windows 탐색기에서 폴더의 경로 이름을 클릭하면 하위 폴더가 나타난다. Breadcrumb bar라고 하는 이 기능은 폴더를 이동할 때 상당히 편한 기능이다. Total Commander에서 이 기능은 디렉토리 뿐만 아니라 FTP, 파일 시스템 플러그인까지 지원한다. 즉, 경로 형태로 표시되는 거의 모든 상황에서 사용할 수 있다.

  5. 트리 패널 기능 강화 Total Commander의 트리패널은 폴더 이동을 빼고 할 수 있는 기능이 별로 없었다. Total Commander 7.0부터 트리 패널을 관리할 수 있는 기능이 추가됐다. 그러나 기능이 미약하기 때문에 별로 사용하지 않았다. Total Commander 7.5에서는 여기에 탐색기 수준은 아니라고 해도 디렉토리의 이름을 바꾸는 기능, 끌어놓기, 삭제, 복사, 붙이기등의 기능을 지원한다.

  6. 기타 추가 기능 강화 파일 이름에서 최대 1024 문자까지 지원한다. 또 내장 프로그램 연결 기능도 지원한다. 내장이라는 이름에서 알 수 있듯이 Total Commander에서만 특정 프로그램을 연결할 수 있는 기능이다. 여기에 마우스 오른쪽 메뉴를 관리할 수 있는 기능도 추가됐다. 복사 대화 상자에서 추가적인 옵션을 선택할 수 있고 배경 전송 관리자에서 여러 위치로 복사하는 것도 가능하다.

개선된 기능 각각에 대한 내용은 다른 글로 따로 설명하기로 하겠다. 다음은 HISTORY.TXT에서 7.04에서 7.5 공개 베타까지 개선된 기능(Added)만 추출해서 시간순으로 정리한 것이다. 자세한 개선 내용은 다음 내용을 참조하기 바란다.
